Amongst the British high-street fashion circuit, Sir Philip Green is the King, ruling the Arcadia Franchising Group. His fleet of shops include, Miss Selfridge, British Home Stores, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, and of course Topshop and Topman. Despite equal input into all of his divisions, it seems Topshop is his number one earner, with over 300 shops in Britain alone, and recent openings in New York, Chicago, Marseilles and now, soon to be, Paris!

The iconic Topshop logo- Known and loved by many

Topshop represents British street style, and is a household name. More to the point, their clothes speak, ‘London’,  and ‘bang-on-trend’, (if not making that trend), yet remain wearable and at a price accessible to all. The iconic brand name is often overheard as a verb to describe an outfit- “Those shoes are soooo Topshop. Where are they from?’

Ok, so you keep talking about this famed  ‘Topshop style’, but what is it?

So many clothes, so little time!

Think this season, think edgy, think bright colours and flashy prints, but the again think classic, think brilliant basics, and think timeless. Am I contradicting myself? I think I am. But Topshop is all of those! Above all Topshop is fun. It dares you to mix it up- take a basic midi-dress, and add a pair of converse to your feets, a chunky necklace and a over-sized denim jacket and your day-off, dress-down look is complete, but replace this jacket with one of their black blazers and a pair of sky-scraper heels, and you have the perfect power suit outfit for the office, ready to rule the boardroom and the fashion field.

The perfect way to take a day look to the night, by the simple addition of a statement necklace

One of the things about Topshop, which holds it in firm place of one’s British heart, is it is intergenerational. Mothers take their daughters there to get them a new outfit, but will happen to find themselves a pair of jeans and a shirt, thus using its wide range of trends and styles to please all clothing tastes.

The flagship store in London, however, goes one step further.  Spanning four stories of Oxford Street, it is a place where dreams are made from. Housing not only the usual collections, it also features a vintage/reclaimed section, a whole floor of concessions including labels such as Lipsy, Oh My Love and Rare, it also has its own TV station, an EAT café for those fatigued by too much shopping and a Lola’s Bakery Cupcake stall, for a quick sugar rush. And you were still questioning why Topshop is loved so much by the British? Pah!
