Aurore dress, 1958, Christian Dior by Yvs Saint Laurent

On July 12, Palais Galliera will open its doors to a new exhibition of 1950s clothing in France!

The 1950s were a crucial period for French fashion. In 1947, Christian Dior launched his first couture collection and caused scandal with his generous use of fabric for fuller skirts and dresses!

The exhibition features some of the major French fashion names like Schiaparelli, Balenciaga, Pierre Balmain, Hubert de Givenchy and Christian Dior, as well as revolutionary ready-to-wear designers including Carven, Robert Piguet, Paquin and Jean Dessès.

Les années 50 : La mode en France, 1947-1957, from July 12 to November 2 2014, at Palais Galliera, 10, avenue Pierre Ier de Serbie, 75016 Paris. Open Monday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm, except bank holidays. Open Thursday evenings until 9pm. For further information visitwww.palaisgalliera.paris.fr
