Following on from Maison Martin Margiela’s first collection for Converse, a new collaboration between the two labels revisits the US sneaker brand’s All Star Chuck ’70 and Jack Purcell. The cult shoes have been covered with the French house’s signature Blanc de Meudon paint, which is designed to flake off over time revealing the true color beneath. Unlike last time, Maison Martin Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2014 Converse are all leather and available in four colorways: amber and navy for the Converse All Star Chuck ’70 and blue and red for the Jack Purcell.

Louis Vuitton’s New Cruise Collection

Over the weekend, recently appointed Louis Vuitton CD Nicolas Ghesquière showed his first Cruise collection for the heritage house. Hot on the heels of Dior’s Cruise ferry and Chanel’s Dubai bonanza, Louis Vuttion’s new season offering was a colourful nod to the late 60s/ early 70s, with gently flaring trousers and punchy prints at the heart of the collection.

Here’s a quick run down of what happened…

Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection Monaco

Everyone’s talking about Monaco right now, thanks to last week’s world preview of Grace of Monaco at the Cannes Film Festival. The Vuitton show was set right near the Palais Princier de Monaco (where Prince Albert II and the Grimaldi family live) in a made-for-the-event glass box and it was a venue fit for a king… or at least Princess Charlene of Monaco.

According to reports online, the show was far more exclusive (only 350 guests in attendance) than the Chanel and Dior shows this month and the set was designed in a way where every guest got an front row view.

Departing from the architecture and structure that gave his Balenciaga designs cult status, Ghesquière’s second collection for Vuitton was filled with more of the fit-and-flare shape he introduced in his AW14 show, but he also added slip dresses, long-sleeved evening jumpers over slim-cut flares and fine-knit shift dresses, too. Colour-wise, lemon yellows, pastel pink, gold, orange and black were mixed up with retro-curtain florals, from boudoir pretty to Mad Men style, and finished with splashes of egg-yolk, poster-paint red and power pink.

Say ‘Bonjour’ to the New ‘Camille’ Bag by Chloé

After celebrating its 60th birthday last year, the French house has created a bohemian Spring/Summer collection.

So it is time to say ‘Bonjour’ to the newest member of the Chloé alphabet…. A for Alice, B for Baylee, C for Camille.

The idea behind the Chloé alphabet is that, with one letter and one new bag each season, Chloé creative director Clare Waight Keller, works her way through an alphabet of accessories in homage to the house’s founder, Gaby Aghion, who was an avid reader and who also chose to name her new pieces alphabetically.

The latest star bag from Chloé is the canvas and raffia Camille, in a nod to the hippie-boho influences seen in the Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The perfect blend of modernity and discreet elegance, this is one piece that will take you from day to night, in all seasons.

Camille canvas and raffia bag, Chloé, €1,500.
