Everyone’s talking about Monaco right now, thanks to last week’s world preview of Grace of Monaco at the Cannes Film Festival. The Vuitton show was set right near the Palais Princier de Monaco (where Prince Albert II and the Grimaldi family live) in a made-for-the-event glass box and it was a venue fit for a king… or at least Princess Charlene of Monaco.
According to reports online, the show was far more exclusive (only 350 guests in attendance) than the Chanel and Dior shows this month and the set was designed in a way where every guest got an front row view.
Departing from the architecture and structure that gave his Balenciaga designs cult status, Ghesquière’s second collection for Vuitton was filled with more of the fit-and-flare shape he introduced in his AW14 show, but he also added slip dresses, long-sleeved evening jumpers over slim-cut flares and fine-knit shift dresses, too. Colour-wise, lemon yellows, pastel pink, gold, orange and black were mixed up with retro-curtain florals, from boudoir pretty to Mad Men style, and finished with splashes of egg-yolk, poster-paint red and power pink.
