Tips & Tricks for Closet Decluttering
The Best place to start your fashion journey is your closet.
Clothes tells a story… They are not just the mirror of yourself, but also they have power to transform our life!
Giving the confidence we need for new adventures….That’s why is very important to get clothes that make us feel good about ourself and radiate! Your closet should be part of your lifestyle. So it’s important to take some time reflect of your schedules, routines and hobbies…
There are a few signs that indicate it’s time to start decluttering your wardrobe:
- You feel you have nothing to wear
- You can’t find what you need
- Do you have items in your closet you haven’t used in a long time?
- Do you have clothes with tags still attached?
- You feel the need to change your look
Sound familiar? Now might be a great time to get your wardrobe back into shape. As, we have the tendency to accumulate clothes on clothes, but always wearing the same, as a matter of habit or laziness.
The concept of closet decluttering has become famous, especially in recent years. The best known method of organizing the closet is by Marie Kondo.
Decluttering the closet does not always mean having a minimalist wardrobe, but having available only what we actually wear.
Why you should declutter your closet?
First of all, it will be easier for you to find things you need daily, as too much stuff is distracting and clutter the mind. Also, it will help you to develop your personal style.
And most importantly, it will help you save money and learn how to invest wisely in quality items.
So, today’s post, I’m sharing tips and tricks you can use to learn how to simplify and declutter your wardrobe by using a
14 day declutter challenge!
But no worries! This challenge is not about throwing everything you own away and replacing those items with new purchases! It is all about organizing what you already own and use daily.
1. Closet Decluttering Questions
Important Questions to ask yourself during your closet declutter
01 How easy is for you to choose an outfit in the morning?
02 Which once are your repeating outfits? Why do you like them?
03 Which emotion do you feel when getting ready to dress?
04 What do you like about your current style?
05 Which aspects of your style and wardrobe do you feel you need to work?
06 Planning to change your career?
07 Are you working from home?
08 Going from College to a corporate job?
09 Having a baby or kids leaving home?
10 A divorce… Ready to date again?
11 Moving to a different country or state?

PRE DETOX TOOLS
- Some good music. It’s very motivating as it will keep you in a good mood…
- A healthy snack like almonds on the side.
- Your cell phone to take some photos of the items for sale.
- Nice Big Miroir.
- Most importantly Stack of Bags.
How to be ruthless when decluttering? Be selective and reserve your closet for items you love 100 percent.
I regularly like to donate or sell items that I do not feel are part of my lifestyle or that I’m not using anymore.
It’s easier to do this every month as we build very fast things and keep us to be on track and focus on not buying unnecessary things… while a detox per season.. can feel very overwhelming….
1.GET EVERYTHING OUT FROM YOUR CLOSET
2. PREPARE 5 STACKS OF BAGS OR BOXES:
- TROW OUT
- MAYBE BAG/BOX
The maybe box is one of my favorite decluttering tools. It’s like a decluttering safety net!
Put it somewhere out of sight. Set a reminder in your phone for 1–2 months in the future. If during that time you haven’t needed or wanted about the items in the box, you can get rid of them knowing you’ll be just fine without them.
WHAT NOT TO DO: Throw out Basic Clothes
Basic items are all those clothes that should never be missing in any closet, such as the little black dress, the white shirt or black pants. Their presence in the wardrobe is very important and, for this reason, getting rid of them during closet decluttering is not a good idea, unless, of course, they are clothes that have faded or ruined, or very damaged by wear.
SAY GOODBYE TO TIGHT CLOTHES
If you’re decluttering your closet, don’t keep old clothes in smaller sizes in the hope of “fitting in” sooner or later! Our bodies can change due to many factors, a pregnancy or changes in body weight. When it comes to clothes we must therefore think of the present, leaving aside all those clothes that fit us too tight or too loose, in the desire to return to have the physique of when we wore them.
GET RID OF DUPLICATES
Get rid of as many duplicate items as possible.
For example, if you have multiple black t-shirts, keep your favorite few and get rid of the rest. Or if you have the same t-shirt in multiple colors, keep your favorite few and get rid of the rest.
Get rid of anything older than 1 or 2 months with the tags still on
If you haven’t been excited to wear a new item after 1 or 2 months of buying it, get rid of it.
4.Evaluate Your Clothes Seasonally
There are 4 easy steps:
- Take everything out of the closet. Then, wipe down the shelving, dust, and vacuum.
- Do a quick purge of anything you’re going to donate or sell, items that need altering or dry cleaning.
- Put everything back in the closet sorting most-worn items in front.
- Take alterations and cleaning to the tailor and dry cleaner; bring donations to the resale shop or your charity of choice.
5. Start Building a Capsule Wardrobe
Another great way to try and experiment with a smaller, simplified wardrobe is by trying a capsule wardrobe.
A capsule wardrobe is a small selection of clothes that you can mix and match together to create a variety of outfits with a limited number of clothes.
Putting a capsule wardrobe together will help you to free of clutter and help you find your signature style.
