Paris, Made to Order: A guide to Custom-Made Goods PART 1

Paris is for everyone: it’s for the couple kissing at Trocadéro, it’s for the friends picnicking on the Champs de Mars, and it’s for the family worshipping art at the Louvre. That’s part of the city’s charm- there’s something available for everyone. Even so, doesn’t this thought occur once in a while, this desire to keep a little bit of Paris for yourself? Perhaps that’s just me- but perhaps I’m also not alone. So, for those of us who want a bespoke token of our Parisian memories, a custom-made souvenir for ourselves, here are some boutiques that offer custom-made goods. Bid farewell to prêt-à-porter (at least for a little while.)

GOYARD

Although Louis Vuitton is the more famous Parisian trunk maker, Goyard is its equally prestigious rival: having been in business since 1792 (making it the oldest Parisian trunk maker around), its signature chevron print is often seen on the streets of Paris in the forms of totes and travel bags. With each bag being handmade and hand-painted, you can be assured that you’ll get an unique item; however, for those of us who want even more customization, you can have stripes and initials painted on the bag in your choice of colors. A large range of bags, from totes to shoulder bags, are available, as well as their signature trunks and travel bags, from around 900€.
